It’s here! After seven years, Good Charlotte has finally released another long-awaited album, and fans are so excited! The album is called Motel Du Cap, produced alongside Jordan Fish of Bring Me the Horizon, and it was released this past Friday! The album blends Good Charlotte’s signature high pop-punk energy with a refined emotional depth. Let’s talk about some of the highlights!

The opener, “Check in at Motel Du Cap,” is a cinematic invitation into the band’s hearts that is the entire album at its core.
The lead single, “Rejects,” is an emotionally raw fan favorite with riffs reminiscent of The Young and the Hopeless and a soft-rock, more mature tone that resonates with underdogs everywhere. Another stand out for me is “I Don’t Work Here Anymore,” a beautiful slow track that really connects me to all those who struggle with getting older and still trying to chase your dreams while dealing with the monotony of work and life.
Some unique tracks on the album include “Deserve You,” a surprisingly warm and welcoming country-punk fusion song, “Life is Great,” a cool and refreshing pop-punk/hip-hop track featuring Wiz Khalifa, and “Vertigo,” a very classically Good Charlotte punk track with R&B undertones, very reminiscent of “Like It’s Her Birthday.”
The album’s second single, “Stepper,” is truly a lyrically fun song (“She’s a fashion killer, she’s a real thriller, she’s a heart stealer, and I know that she just wants to ride with me“) that is an exciting emotional sprint.
Finally, “Castle in the Sand” is a true standout to me, and is perhaps my favorite song on the album. It is a gorgeous slow track about appreciating the person who you built a life with, or a castle in the sand with, and it plays out like a movie score. As a happily married new mother who is watching my son grow up way too fast, I couldn’t relate to this song more!
While Motel Du Cap is quite a pivot from early 2000’s angsty and youthful Good Charlotte music, it does an outstanding job of blending elements from hip-hop, country, and R&B with the band’s signature sound while demonstrating the band’s emotional growth and maturity in its raw, unfiltered lyrics…I highly recommend you give the album a listen here!
Till Next Time,
XOXO,
