A Brief History of A Day to Remember
A Day To Remember was founded in 2003 in Ocala, Florida by guitarist Tom Denney and drummer Bobby Scruggs. The band is known for their unique style of blending pop-punk and emo music with metalcore. The band exploded in popularity, particularly in the mid-2000s, especially in the pop-punk and post-hardcore scenes, releasing several successful albums:
And Their Name Was Treason released May 10th, 2005
For Those Who Have Heart released January 22, 2007
Homesick released February 3rd, 2009
What Separates Me From You released November 15th, 2010
Common Courtesy released October 8th, 2013
Bad Vibrations released September 2nd, 2016
You’re Welcome released March 5th, 2021
Big Ole Album Vol. 1 released February 18th, 2025
After several lineup changes over the years, the band now consists of vocalist Jeremy McKinnon, rhythm guitarist and backing vocalist Neil Westfall, percussionist Alex Shelnutt and lead guitarist/backing vocalist Kevin Skaff. The release of Big Ole Album, Vol 1 marks the band’s eighth studio album to date. Check out my review of the album here.
A Day To Remember in Pop Culture
While non-music fans may recognize ADTR’s Jeremy McKinnon from an episode of the History Channel’s Pawn Stars aired on February 6th, 2010, the band released a cover of American Idol pop sensation Kelly Clarkson’s “Since U Been Gone”prior to that in 2007 at the height of the punk-goes-pop era because according to the band, “(That song) embodied what we were trying to do…(be a) pop band that plays mosh music.” Later singles like “Downfall of Us All” and “If it Means a Lot to You” really cemented the band’s signature style of blending emo, pop punk and metalcore music and they have been doing it best ever since!
While I will be doing a breakdown of the rest of A Day To Remember’s albums in future posts, I encourage you to check out their previously mentioned songs as well as more of my personal favorites such as “All Signs Point to Lauderdale”, “Have Faith in Me,” “All My Friends,” “Make it Make Sense” and more here! What’s your favorite ADTR album? Leave a comment and let’s discuss!
Thanks for reading!
XOXO,
Meagan
